       Write down a chemical equation with reactants on the left side and products on the right side.

       It must be noted that no new elements should appear in the product side. For example, if there are A, B and C present in the reactants then only the said elements should appear in the products.

       The net charge (electrons and protons) must be equal on both sides of the chemical equation.

       Always try to start balancing with one element and after making sure that the said element is balanced jump to the next one.

       Once one element is balanced, then proceed with the remaining elements in the chemical equation.

       Finally, make sure that the number of atoms on both sides of the equation have been balanced, and the law of conservation of mass has been satisfied. 

Methods of Balancing Chemical Equation

Multiplying by Integer Technique

Consider the following chemical equation

K+ O2→K2O

In this chemical equation we can see that there is one atom of K and two atoms of O in reactants and 2 atoms of K and single O atom in products. Hence, in this technique the integers will be multiplied on both sides to balance the equation. 

Step 1: Balancing of O by placing 2 with K2O

K+ O2→2K2O

Step 2: Balancing of K by putting 4 with K

4K+ O2→2K2O

Step 3: Cross check the atom on both sides of the reaction

Balance Chemical Equation by using Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen (CHO) Technique
